Dr. Jeffrey White, professor in the Department of Classical Languages at St. Bonaventure University, presented a paper at the annual spring meeting of the
Renaissance Society of America.
White was invited to present the paper at the March 28 meeting in New York City.
Titled “Biondo Flavio as Henry James’s Dencombe (?): Revising the Italia Illustrata,” the paper is an attempt to help disentangle the lines of the manuscript and early print transmission of the text of the work.
The paper will be printed in a volume of conference articles on Biondo Flavio in “Studien zur Wirkung der Klassischen Antike” of Bonn.
White’s volume 1 of the “Italia Illustrata” (Italy Illuminated) was published under the I Tatti imprint of the Harvard University Press in 2005. HUP will publish the concluding volume 2 of the work for June 2015.
A graduate of Boston College with a doctorate from the University at Buffalo, White has taught at St. Bonaventure for 38 years.
