Faith and Learning

Students volunteering through BonaResponds, working in Buffalo after the October 2006 storms.Learning extends far beyond the walls of academic halls at St. Bonaventure, and the essence of that out-of-class experience is service, making a difference in the lives of those in need just down the street of a thousand miles away.

Here are some of the programs offered:

Service Trips attempt to "immerse" students in cross-cultural experiences that are local, national or international. University Ministries and Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) both sponsor service trips.

The Journey Project is a grant-funded initiative designed to bring together all members of the campus community to explore the integration of our faith, service and vocation.

Students meeting with friars.Bona Buddies seeks to link Bonaventure students with local "at risk" children.  They meet weekly, attending events and activities on and off campus, and for one-on-one time.  Senior Bona Buddies pair Bonaventure students with elderly sisters at the Allegany Motherhouse who are looking for companionship.

One of the oldest student-run soup kitchens in the nation, the Warming House engages students in the challenges of the marginalized in the Olean community.  By sharing a meal together, students and guests experience a sense of community and companionship.

Mt. Irenaeus is a retreat center 20 miles from campus that offers peaceful re-creation, prayer, and family-style hostpitality.  Students for the Mountain take a leadership role with friars and other Franciscans in the ministry of the Mountain and to others in the University community.

A sign of thanks for BonaResponds.
