ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y., May 31, 2012 — Alumni and friends of St. Bonaventure University will return to campus this weekend for the university’s annual Alumni Reunion Weekend.
Special recognition is given to graduating classes going back in five-year increments, from the class of 2007 to the 50-year class of 1962, although alumni from all classes are welcome to attend. As many as 1,000 people are expected to return for activities on and around the St. Bonaventure campus.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Friday and continues throughout the day. Friday’s activities include walking tours of campus, several special-topic presentations, and a 5 p.m. Mass in the University Chapel for the 50th anniversary class of 1962 and alumni of prior years. Special class dinners will be held at various off-campus venues and the evening will end with a social in the Rathskeller on campus.
Saturday morning events include a donor-recognition breakfast with Sr. Margaret Carney, O.S.F., university president, campus tours and open houses, presentations on Thomas Merton and other special topics, and more.
Following a picnic lunch at Hickey Dining Hall, afternoon activities include additional tours, open houses and presentations, and a book-signing from noon to 1 p.m. at the University Bookstore by alumni Bob and Ann Flynn McCarthy, authors of “The Good Journey: 150 Years of History at St. Bonaventure University.”
At 1 p.m. Saturday in the Reilly Center Arena, three alumni will be inducted into the university’s Athletics Hall of Fame. Members of this 35th Hall of Fame class include former women’s basketball player and coach Mary Jane Telford of the class of 1975; former basketball player Hillary Waltman, class of 2002; and former soccer player Jim Meicke, class of 1987.
Afternoon events conclude with the Alumni Memorial Mass at 4:30 p.m. in the University Chapel.
Following Mass, alumni will gather for a cocktail reception at Hickey Dining Hall before buses transport them to Premier Banquet Center in Olean for the Annual Reunion Dinner, when the William “Stax” McCarthy Alumnus and Alumna of the Year presentations will be made.
The weekend concludes Sunday morning with a breakfast in Hickey Dining Hall and a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in the University Chapel.
