Hellinger Awards to honor recent grad

Shannon Shepherd, '12, now a sports reporter/anchor at WSAW-TV, the CBS affiliate in Wausau, Wisc., will be honored as the winner of the 2012 Hellinger Award at the 52nd Annual Mark Hellinger Awards, Friday, Sept. 21, Premier Banquet Center in Olean. Also being honored are Bryan Jackson, '12, and John Hanchette, '64.

Lee Coppola to be inducted into the BBA Hall of Fame

Former J/MC dean Lee Coppola, will be inducted into the Buffalo Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame next month. Coppola's career includes stints as a newspaper reporter, TV investigative reporter, U.S. attorney, and dean. He retired in 2011.

Stith brothers, Crawford scholarship fund to be established

Proceeds from the Tom Stith Memorial Basketball Tournament held recently in Harlem, N.Y., will help establish a diversity scholarship at the university. The scholarship will be named in honor of Tom and Sam Stith and teammate Fred Crawford.
