ASIA’s dance team will be performing its annual fall show at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, in the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts.
Tickets are available for purchase at the Quick Center at $5 for Bonaventure students and $10 for the general public.
This year’s show is called “So You Think You Can Dance: SBU ASIA,” and will incorporate a variety of styles of Asian dance, including Korean pop dancing, Chinese fan dancing, belly dancing and multiple styles of Indian dance.
“We structured the show so that we could give students and the community the opportunity to see a variety of cultural performances from all across Asia,” said Anisha Satish, public relations chair for the club.
ASIA (Asian Students in Action) is a Damietta Center club that works toward integrating Asian culture into American culture and heightening cultural awareness on campus. ASIA’s dance team is a prominent subset of the club that performs at several campus events to give students the chance to experience and appreciate the many unique types of Asian dance.
“Our main goal as a club is to spread the Asian culture as much as we can to the student body and the community,” said Satish. “In previous years, we’ve mainly had performances that have shown facets of the Indian culture. This year we’ll be incorporating dances from all across Asia.
“There are numerous languages and cultures that are going to be a part of our show this year, so we hope that the audience will appreciate all of the styles of dancing. It’ll be a unique show so we’d love for everyone to come out and show their support.”
ASIA’s performances offer not only a cultural experience, but an interactive one as well. Audience members are encouraged to be vocal in their enjoyment of the show.
In Satish’s words, “ASIA shows are meant to be loud; cheer and holler for all of your favorites and clap along.”
The show will count as a Passport Event for freshmen, but everyone is encouraged to attend. There will be a small reception in the Quick Center Loft after the show. Contact Satish at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
