At the beginning of each semester, an informational meeting is held for all students who will be involved in the tutoring experience. At this meeting, students are asked for their schedules and availability, as well as their choice of sites. No site is promised, but schedules are accommodated. It is also at this general meeting that you meet with Mrs. Hall, the Director of Field Services, as well as the graduate assistant who is coordinating the tutoring for that semester. Once you have been assigned to a site, you should check your e-mail very often for upcoming messages. Students assigned to the various sites will quickly receive information as to when. where, and how they will meet at their site, with the administrator. Most e-mail messages will come from the graduate assistant as she or he will be your central contact person.
Before you are placed for tutoring, you need to stop down to the Office of Field Services and sign a Field Placement Disclosure Statement, which takes the place of the FBI clearance our students obtained in the past. You also need to send for your Child Abuse Registry as well as Professional Liability Insurance. You can obtain all of these materials on the wall across from the Field Services corner in the basement of Plassmann Hall.
