The Senior Art Exhibition at St. Bonaventure University, showcasing the work of Robert Prince, a visual arts major from Olean, opened with a reception and gallery talk on Friday, March 22, at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts.
The event also marked the opening of the university’s Spring Art Show at The Quick Center, featuring pieces by beginning and advanced student-artists.
Prince’s exhibition, titled “Robert Prince: Numbers One-Thirteen,” was presented in The Quick Center’s first-floor Branch Gallery. In a gallery talk, Prince offered comments and answered questions about his work. Read more.

Native American artist to speak on campus
Colleen Cutschall, professor and chair of the Visual and Aboriginal Art Department at Brandon University in Manitoba, Canada, will speak at The Quick Center for the Arts on campus at 4 p.m. on March 26.
A Native American artist originally from Pine Ridge, S.D., Cutschall has been working and living in southwest Manitoba as an artist, art historian, educator and curator for more than 20 years. She has produced numerous publications, lectures on Native American issues, and art, nationally and internationally. Read complete release.

New Urban Art Club hopes to help students express themselves
Marc Peralta, a sophomore visual arts major, has started the Urban Art Club.
The club aims to use art forms such as graffiti, hip hop and rap to allow students to express themselves while creating works of art.
The club plans a number of events, including making a video showing students creating art work, rapping in a group or displaying writings and drawings.

 Art students give Francis Hall space a facelift
Students and faculty worked together to transform two first-floor wings of Francis Hall to represent the Art Program in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at St. Bonaventure.
A report on the future of arts at SBU recommended the creation of a Studio Art Center at Francis Hall, comprising formal spaces to include studio classrooms, student studios for seniors majoring in studio art and connecting hallway space that links and identifies the area as the Studio Art Center.
It also recommended efforts to adapt and beautify the hallways outside the studio classrooms for informally hanging artwork, posters and other work. Read more
