MSED Childhood Literacy


education_14.jpgThis degree is designed for teachers who wish to address the demanding literacy needs of their students or who may wish to serve in a birth-grade 6 setting at some time in their career.


The degree provides teachers with extended research-based knowledge in the areas of the literacy process, diagnosis and remediation of literacy problems, supervision of reading and literacy programs, and other literacy issues.


The MSED in Literacy meets the criteria for, and can be used in partial fulfillment of, the requirements for professional (permanent) teacher certification in the state of New York. Additionally, it meets the New York and Pennsylvania coursework requirements for certification in childhood literacy birth-6th grade (NY) reading (PA).


This MSED can be completed in 12 months (summer, fall, spring attendance) on the Olean campus and in 16 months at SBU's Buffalo Center.
