Every residence hall room on campus is wired for direct access to the campus network. This will give each student with his or her own computer the ability to use e-mail and to have Internet  access. Additionally, all campus residences have access to the SBU wireless network.
Technology Services makes no preferences as to the make or model of any computer coming on to our network. We can only suggest that students consider the following basic recommendations when purchasing a computer for the school's network.

Technology Services is not allowed to perform any hardware repairs on student's personal computers. We recommend at purchasing at least a 3 year warranty on a new system with on-site repair if it is available. |

Over half of the trouble calls we receive from students are due to a lack of virus protection and Windows updates not being maintained. Students need to know how to keep the antivirus protection and their Windows operating system up to date and how to scan their system occasionally to be sure it is kept clean. |
