The mission of the Damietta Center is to act as a progressive educational channel providing all students with an enriched appreciation for differences through comprehensive diversity exposure.
- Programming – The Damietta Center provides interactive opportunities designed to combat biases and cultivate student appreciation for diversity in all its facets, including but not limited to gender, race and sexual orientation.
- Community – The Damietta Center promotes an appreciation for diversity; raising multicultural awareness through intercultural dialogue and interaction.
- Attracting & Retaining Underrepresented Students – The Damietta Center strives to help students become familiar with life at SBU by meeting the needs of potentially marginalized groups of students through the stimulation of social development and provision of emotional and academic support to ensure their success at SBU.
Location
The Damietta Center is located at the west end annex to Francis Hall next to the Gardens Apartments. Our diversity center welcomes all students, faculty, staff and administrators. Facilities include a full kitchen, dining room, meeting spaces for campus- wide student organizations and an activity room for gatherings, TV and movies. Administrators, faculty, and staff and are also invited to use the facility for informal classes, meetings or gatherings. |
