Fire/Life Safety Official

 

Ralph Aloia was hired in 1986 as a residence hall safety and security monitor. His work history and background as a safety official and instructor spans from 1974. His first employment was as a monitor/safety supervisor and instructor in high risk businesses in St.Petersburg, Fla., where he spent his teenage years.

 

Aloia moved to the Olean area in 1982 and become a senior management assistant with a private security company. He then trained in firefighting, fire equipment, and electronics, and became a New York state code compliance enforcement officer/inspector for St. Bonaventure University.

  

Aloia was named campus fire inspector in 1992 and spent several years as a night security shift supervisor. In 2007, he was appointed to a new position as campus fire and life safety officer and holds the second-highest office (deputy director) in the Safety and Security Department.

In 2010, Aloia became a state security officer teacher/instructor to certify and license state security guards. Acting under the guidelines of the University president, the state fire marshal’s Office for Inspections, the vice provost for student life, and the senior director of Safety and Security, Aloia commits himself to community and life safety.

 

During his appointment, Aloia has been instrumental in many advances in the area of fire and life safety including the innovation and implementation of technological advances in safety equipment and maintenance, and fire safety education of the University community. He oversees testing of outside venders and fire equipment testing as well as performing preventive maintenance inspections and reporting on a constant basis.
