 All buildings and areas where appropriate at St. Bonaventure University have fire alarm systems that report directly to Safety and Security dispatchers, and immediately to 911.
The alarms are activated in several ways including automatic heat detection, smoke detectors, and manual pull stations, or even by individuals reporting in by phone or some other method. The Safety and Security response time, on average, to any campus building is approximately 2 minutes, which is less than the average response time of any local fire department or police agency.
CO (carbon monoxide) detectors were in place on campus before laws required such devices. Our CO detectors are very sensitive, detecting levels of carbon monoxide long before their buildup would become a health risk. This early detection combined with our swift response time gives the campus community an extremely efficient system for detecting and reacting to any carbon monoxide problems.
If the need arises, St. Bonaventure's Facilities division and the local fire department have even more sensitive equipment and personnel that can be summoned 24/7 to respond to a carbon monoxide problem.
