MBA 646 CHINA STUDIES - 3 CREDITS

This is an intense course introducing you to China, its culture, history, and prospects for the future, all with a business focus.
You will land in Shanghai, the Paris of the East, and spend four days in this remarkable city. You will also stay at the Friendship Hotel in Beijing, located next to the Beijing Institute of Technology, which will be your host for nine days. You will have the opportunity to interact with graduate students at that Institute. English-speaking professors will give you a background on Chinese culture, language, history, business operations, and management style. You will be briefed by the managers of the following parties:

There are 36 hours of briefings and lectures. In addition, there will be cultural visitations to the new Pudong area of Shanghai and to many historical sites in Beijing such as:
* the Great Wall
* Ti’ananmen Square
* the National People’s Congress
* the Forbidden City
* the Summer Palace
* the Temple of Heaven
* the Llama Temple.
Also scheduled is an overnight to Xi’an to see the 2300 year-old Terra Cotta Warriors, described by National Geographic Magazine as the eighth wonder of the world. This two-week experience is filled with every opportunity to discover China. Your accommodations will be in western-style fine hotels. The total cost will be $5,275, which includes tuition and all airfare from/to Buffalo Niagara International Airport. Students will be two to a room and the cost includes a western breakfast daily and 5 other meals. Material will be forwarded weekly for your required reading. You will have every opportunity to ask questions and discover the real China, its people, and what it offers as a market. No knowledge of the Chinese language is required.

An application, release form, and copy of the complete photo page of your passport (if you have one now) must be submitted by October 31, 2012 with a $1,500 deposit, payable to S.B.U. Class size is limited so be sure to submit your materials as soon as possible!
Please note that the Dean's Scholarship and SBU Graduate Assistantships are not applicable. In addition, there will be a fee of $165 to process the Chinese visa application.
