Internships

What We Are About

Experience is a wonderful teacher. The School of Business has long recognized the value of internships. Our internship program began in 1970 and has grown tremendously since that time. From fewer than a dozen interns the first few years to well over 300 interns per year in recent years, the program has seen dynamic growth.

Internships are currently required for Accounting and Marketing majors and strongly encouraged for Business Information Systems, Finance and Management majors. Most interns are paid and can earn up to six academic credits; some students complete multiple internships as part of their studies in the School of Business. The internship program presents business majors at St. Bonaventure with unique challenges as they apply their classroom knowledge in real world business settings. As students meet these challenges, the program offers a rich and fruitful experience that is an incredibly rewarding part of their business education.

What An Internship Can Do For You?

  • Students experience first-hand how businesses operate as they obtain real world exposure.
  • Internships help students mature and learn how to relate to others in a professional environment.
  • Internships provide students with the opportunity to apply theory learned in the classroom.
  • Internships can help students to pay some of their college expenses.
  • Internships can lead to full time careers upon graduation.

Student Reactions

"During an internship, a student doesn't learn how much he or she knows, but rather just the opposite: how much there is to learn."

"I found myself wishing that the internship lasted longer."

"I was surprised at the degree of interest that everyone took in me both personally and professionally."

"You are always learning something new and you are constantly thinking."

Where Will You Intern?

Our students have had expereinces with large and small organizations, as well as with not-for-profit and government entities. All of the "Big Four" Accounting firms (Deloitte & Touche, Ernst & Young, KPMG, and PricewaterhouseCoopers) actively recruit on campus and employ our interns extensively. Alcas Corp., American Express, Corning Glass, Dresser-Rand, Gannett, Kodak, Lockheed Martin, Marriott, McDonald's, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, Nabisco, Paine Webber, St. Bonaventure University, Subway, United Way, UPS, US Government, Wal-Mart, Walt Disney World, and  Xerox are just a few of the many organizations where our students have interned.
