Success in the active market for finance majors requires students to be familiar not just with current business practice, but with the cutting edge tools that will define the financial marketplace in the future.
Toward this end, finance students take electives designed to further their interest and marketability in specific areas of finance such as bank management, international finance, financial statement analysis and options and futures.
Those who want a hands-on learning learning experience can participate in Students in Money Management, a program in which students invest a real endowment fund. Requiring equity analysis and economic analysis, this real world forum provides invaluable experience and distinguishes students from their peers as they enter the work force.
Finance internships are plentiful and may be used to augment the more traditional academic training. Additionally, many students have chosen to fulfill a portion of their additional finance electives through independent research directed by the faculty.
Many students use the flexibility built in to the finance program at St. Bonaventure to complete secondary concentrations in areas such as economics, accounting, international business, foreign language, computer science, and mathematics.
Recent graduates in the finance program have chosen positions in portfolio management, option trading, futures trading, commercial lending, insurance underwriting, treasury management, brokerage and not for profit financial management.
