Secondary Education

Students interested in becoming secondary school teachers need to complete a major in the appropriate subject matter for teaching.

The teacher certification program is available as a fast-track master’s degree requiring three semesters of additional work after receipt of the bachelor’s degree. At the completion of this program, the student will have a master’s degree and be eligible for certification in New York and/or Pennsylvania in one of the following areas:  English, social studies, mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, Spanish, French, or Latin.

Interested students should contact Dr. Paula Kenneson, Adolescence Education program director in the School of Education, to discuss the program requirements. It is appropriate to talk with the program advisor as early as sophomore year to ensure that all prerequisite requirements for admission to the program are addressed.
