Dr. Steven Nuttall is an associate professor of philosophy, director of the Philosophy Prelaw Program and one of two directors of the SBU Center for Law and Society. He holds a J.D. and a Ph.D, both from The Ohio State University. He is a member of the New York State Bar.

Dr. Nuttall regularly teaches courses in the philosophy of law, legal reasoning and legal ethics. He is the director of the Philosophy Prelaw Program and faculty advisor to the University’s mock trial team. He is the editor of the primary text used in Legal Reasoning, a course that he teaches annually, and is currently writing a legal ethics text.

If you ask him, he will tell you that his greatest achievement has been co-authoring the genetic codes of two wonderful children: Melissa and Johnathan. Like his colleague in the Philosophy Department, Russell Woodruff, Nuttall is a vegetarian, a lover of good food, sports (especially hockey and racquetball) and music, but prefers wine to beer (unless the beer is very cold). Dr. Nuttall lives in Olean with his wife, Natalie, and two noisy (but very affectionate) love birds.
