Students accepted into this competitive program have a reserved seat waiting for them at the SUNY University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine.

The student completes three years at St. Bonaventure University, then four years at UB. The first year’s credit at UB transfers back to SBU to complete the degree of B.S. in biology, saving a year’s time and expense. The student does have the option of completing four years at SBU, if desired.

One or two students are accepted each year. Transfer students are not eligible for this program.

To remain in the program and take your reserved seat at the UB School of Dental Medicine, there are academic and comportment standards that must be maintained (see below).

The student must major in biology, and also must complete 100 hours of dental clinical exposure while at SBU. Satisfactory performance on the DAT is also required. The DAT is taken in the fall of the last year at SBU.

Applicants must first submit a complete application to SBU. Applications that are complete by Dec. 15 receive priority. Later applications will be considered up to Jan. 30 as space allows. Required application materials that do not fit into online applications should be mailed to the Office of Admissions (see address at bottom of page). Transfer students are not eligible for this program.

After you are accepted by SBU and nominated for the program, a separate online application must be completed with the UB School of Dental Medicine. Official high school transcripts, SAT or ACT scores, and letters of recommendation need to be supplied again directly to UB School of Dental Medicine as part of that application.

Qualified applicants will be interviewed at SBU by invitation in January and February. A second interview is conducted at UB by invitation in late March to early April. Decisions on acceptance are made by May 1.
