The rich history of St. Bonaventure University is steeped in stories of enormous sacrifice in order to build what is today a university of distinction.

Perhaps the most memorable story is that of founding benefactor Nicholas Devereux arriving in America as a boy of 15, with little more thaNicholas Devereux arrived in America with three gold coins.n the clothes on his back and three gold coins in his pocket. In gratitude for his safe arrival from Ireland, he generously gave one of the gold coins to
St. Peter's Church during Mass. An usher offered to return the coin, thinking it had been given by mistake. The young Devereux replied that he had given the coin as an offering to God.

Years later, the Devereux family helped create St. Bonaventure University. It will take the help of many alumni, parents and friends to ensure that Nicholas and Mary Devereux's legacy of giving is continued in perpetuity.

It is through The Bonaventure Fund that the foundation created by the Devereux family is built upon. Support of The Bonaventure Fund ensures that deserving students have the opportunity to achieve the education of their dreams - a Bonaventure education. It ensures that our faculty members can receive support for professional development. Most importantly, it enables St. Bonaventure to fulfill its promise: that our students are becoming extraordinary.

As a distinctive leadership designation for supporters of The Bonaventure Fund, The 1858 Founders Society signifies your commitment to continuing the legacy established by our founders. It also highlights your excitement about the University's mission as well as its vision and aspirations for the future.
