Class of 1977
My current passions were inspired by three former SBU professors.
First, Dr. Russell Jandoli encouraged me to pursue writing
I just published my first novel, Alice Power, about the misadventures of two high school girls.
Second, professor Leo Keenan influenced me to become a college English teacher.
I have taught 20 years at De Anza College in Cupertino, Calif., where my students teach me to think young.
Finally, Dr. Justin Diehl, my dad, who started the SBU women’s swimming team in 1972 and who last year at age 80 won six top awards at the National Short Course Masters Swimming Championship, has been foremost in my thoughts.
I also pursue my passions as coach for my own daughter, college instructor, and – most recently – competitive Masters swimmer.
My passions truly reflect the influence of these three men, and I am so grateful.
