St. Bonaventure University has long valued the military veteran as a member of our campus community. Our 2016 designation by U.S. News & World Report as a Top 20 school in the North for veterans affirms our commitment to veterans and their dependents. Our new Student Veterans Center is staffed by two full-time employees dedicated solely to the needs of veterans as they transition from military to academic life.
Dr. Barbara Trolley, professor of counselor education, Dr. Paula Scraba, associate professor of physical education, Rick Trietley, former VP for Student Affairs, and Michael Leonard, director of the Military Aligned Students program, attended and presented at the ASACCU (Association of Student Affairs at Catholic Colleges and Universities) conference held in Aston, Pa.
Their presentation focused on the development and operation of the Military Aligned Students program as well as the annual student veteran pilgrimage to Assisi, Italy. In addition, the St. Bonaventure faculty and staff members participated in numerous workshops and team-building activities, centered on mission integration across campus. (Note" They were the winners of the Philly Phanatic Hot Dog Rocket Wrap with their “St. Franky and Clare Mustard” hot dog!)
The closing presentation at the conference was given by Fr. Daniel Horan, O.F.M., a graduate of St. Bonaventure’s Honors program. The event was hosted by Neumann University, whose president, Dr. Chris Domes, is also a St. Bonaventure alumnus, a graduate of the Counselor Education Program, as well as the History and Secondary Education programs. The participants also shared a sense of community with friars and staff from sister Franciscan colleges, including Siena College, Marian University, and Saint Francis (Pa.) University.
