A new Civil War book edited by SBU journalism professor Chris Mackowski has been released. "Bushwhacking on a Grand Scale: The Battle of Chickamauga, Sept. 18-20, 1863" by William Lee White focused on the second-bloodiest battle of the American Civil War, which took place 150 years ago. The book was released to coincide with the sesquicentennial.
Bushwhacking is the latest volume in the Emerging Civil War Series, published by Savas Beatie, LLC, the largest commercial publisher of Civil War books. Mackowski, as managing editor for the series, worked closely with White to develop and produce the volume. White is a historian at Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Battlefield.
The Emerging Civil War Series tells the war’s most important stories in reader-friendly prose for general audiences. Each volume contains more than 150 photos, illustrations, and maps.
Mackowski, a professor of journalism and mass communication at St. Bonaventure, has been with the university since the fall of 2000.
