As an educator at St. Bonaventure University, it is my responsibility to further the values associated with St. Bonaventure’s intellectual journey. My goal is not to impose knowledge but to awaken a creative response in the learner so the student will be motivated from within to learn.
My ongoing hope is that each individual will take personal responsibility for one’s intellectual journey while respecting the dignity and worth of all creation. And, that’s the exciting challenge of teaching at St. Bonaventure!
As an emerging scholar in his field of marketing communications, Br. Basil has recently contributed substantially to the literature in his field. His article "An Empirical Examination of Key Factors Influencing Development of Strategic Marketing Communications Initiatives: A Case Study of a Small, Private University in Western New York" has been published by the American Marketing Association.
Br. Basil, together with his research colleagues Pauline Hoffmann and Heidi Ofinowicz, presented this paper at the 18th Annual Symposium for the Marketing of Higher Education in San Diego, Calif., in November 2007. In addition, he also writes on public relations ethics and Franciscan vocational initiatives.
As a Franciscan Friar of Holy Name Province, Br. Basil directs the SBU Franciscan Vocation Program, through which he mentors young men who may be considering a vocation and arranges regular gatherings and ministerial opportunities between them and the friars.
Br. Basil serves his religious order as regional vocation director for Holy Name Province and was elected by his Franciscan community at St. Bonaventure to serve on the Franciscan House Council to ensure the ongoing community management of the Franciscan Friary on campus.
