Darwin L. King, professor of accounting, and Edward D. King had an article published in the March 2014 issue of the Oil, Gas & Energy Quarterly.
The article, titled “What You Should Know About The Revised IRS Hardwood Timber Industry Audit Technique Guide,” analyzed the changes found in the recently revised IRS audit techniques guide. This manual is used by IRS agents in the process of conducting an income tax audit involving the purchase and sale of timber and timberland.
Any taxpayer involved in timber operations must be aware of potential questions that must be answered during the completion of an income tax audit. Understanding the IRS agents' “audit plan” is important to all taxpayers involved in forestland activities.
