St. Bonaventure University

Student Activities

Mathematics is everywhere—not just in classrooms, textbooks, and calculators. The St. Bonaventure Department of Mathematics offers numerous opportunities to explore mathematics beyond the classroom. What interests you?

Good people and good food: The Department celebrates Pi Day in the spring and Integral Day in the fall.

Outreach: Help us organize or run the Challenge 24 Competition or the MATHCOUNTS Chapter Contest for middle school (and some elementary school) students.

Problem solving: Check out three Math Contests for SBU Students and our Bona's Bonus Problems.

Puzzles, projects, games: Our Math Club has something for everyone!

Seaway Section Math Conferences: The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) has 29 geographic sections. St. Bonaventure belongs to the Seaway Section, which includes parts of New York, Ontario, and Quebec. The Seaway Section has two annual professional meetings, one in the spring and one in the fall, each hosted by a school in the section. These two-day conferences are attended by faculty and students from across the section and feature a banquet, fascinating talks, and a student poster session. Bonaventure math faculty regularly attend these meetings and students are encouraged to join us!

Student distinctions: Students may distinguish themselves by earning the Myra J. Reed Mathematics Award or membership in Pi Mu Epsilon, the Mathematics Honor Society.
