This Sunday’s women’s basketball game against Duquesne at 1 p.m. will be a special event in many ways. In addition to it being Senior Day and the final regular season home game for our Bonnies, St. Bonaventure will also celebrate with our many friends from Special Olympics as well as the unified basketball teams from Olean and Allegany-Limestone School Districts.
As she has in past years, Megan Pockalny will sing the national anthem. At halftime, the unified teams will play a short game.
Also, Megan Bomgaars from the hit reality show “Born this Way” will be at the game as part of her visit to the community. She will help “spread the word to end the word,” referring to the use of the R-word, a campaign embraced by St. Bonaventure Athletics.
Megan is a well-known self-advocate with Down syndrome, an artist, and a rising entrepreneur. In addition to her appearance at the basketball game, she will also hold a meet and greet at Olean’s newest restaurant, Robyn & Ravyn Lounge, 239 N. Union St., from 5 -7:30 p.m. Sunday. She will present her inspirational speech “Don’t Limit Me” at 6 p.m. Monday at the Olean High School Auditorium. Both of these events are open to the public at no charge.
