This course introduces students to the world of teaching. Students will be introduced to: the work of teachers; historical and philosophical aspects of the American school system from a global perspective; the various roles of school personnel; basic curriculum principles; the political facets of school decisions; ethical and legal issues; the role of standards and standard-setting entities; and the terminology and jargon of education. Students will initiate their own personal philosophy and will begin to develop a professional portfolio that will document their process of becoming a teacher.
