Writer encourages grads to first find a dream
Writer Patricia Hampl offered some unique career advice to more than 660 graduates Sunday morning at St. Bonaventure.
“Your
first post-graduation job is to make sure you have a dream,” said
Hampl, an acclaimed author and English professor at the University of
Minnesota. “Maybe no one can expect to find the meaning of life, but a
meaning for your life, that’s worth looking for — and waiting for,” she
said.

Robbie Chulick and Courtney Cobb named Ideal Bonaventure Students
Two St. Bonaventure University students
who achieved in the classroom and were selfless, caring and enthusiastic
leaders outside of it were recognized as the Ideal Bonaventure Students
for the graduating class of 2013.
Thomas “Robbie” Chulick and Courtney B. Cobb were recognized on Saturday, May 11, during the university’s
Honors Ceremony, and again Sunday during its 153rd Commencement
Exercises.

Five faculty members honored with Professional Excellence Awards
Five St. Bonaventure University faculty
members were recognized for professional excellence at Sunday’s
Commencement Exercises. Seated (from left) are:
- Dr. Carl Case, professor
of management;
- Dr. Gregory J. Privitera, assistant professor of
psychology;
- Dr. Megan Walsh, assistant professor of English;
- Dr.
Phillip G. Payne, professor of history.

Hampl, McQuade, Foster and Zane receive honorary degrees

Commencement speaker Patricia Hampl
was one of four people who received honorary degrees at Commencement.
Also honored were
- Eugene M. McQuade, chief executive officer of Citibank
and a 1971 graduate of St. Bonaventure;
- Daria L. Foster, managing
partner of the investment management firm Lord Abbett & Co.;
- Cynthia Ann Zane, president of Hilbert College.

ROTC cadets commissioned as second lieutenants
Six graduating seniors who were part of the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program while attending St. Bonaventure University were commissioned as second lieutenants in a ceremony on campus Saturday, May 11. Guest speaker for the event was Air Force Reserve Lt. Col. John Boccieri, commander of the 910th Airlift Wing’s 773rd Airlift Squadron in Youngstown, Ohio, and a 1992 graduate of St. Bonaventure.
