Career Development Counseling

Through individualized career development counseling sessions, Career and Professional Readiness Center staff provide support, information and guidance to students at all stages of their career development.  Topics for discussion can include:

  • Major and career exploration and decision-making
  • Job and internship search strategies, as well as resume and cover letter critiques
  • Decisions about graduate school
  • Interview and networking preparation

Schedule a 30-minute appointment with a career development counselor by email (career@sbu.edu), phone (716-375-2384) or stop by the CPRC's main office in Reilly Center, Rm. 231.

The Career and Professional Readiness Center has outlined a Professional Development Action Plan for you so that you can check your progress toward your career goals during your undergraduate years at SBU.  Because we think it is important to build upon your experiences over time, the CPRC's PDAP suggests goals and specific activities for each of your four years on campus. Although we hope you become aware of the plan during your first year, you can use and review the plan at any time.

Additionally, we recommend the Major and Career Exploration Resources to help clarify the connection between academic majors and careers.  All first-year students are encouraged to particpate in the CPRC's Passport Series as part of the University 101 requirement.
