MACQUARIE UNIVERSITY

Macquarie University offers Study Abroad and Exchange students the option of undertaking internships during their studies in Sydney. The internships provide an opportunity to gain valuable work experience within a relevant organization while completing their studies. The internships are unpaid positions with companies near the University or a short train or bus ride away. Students are found relevant positions related to their study major and/or interests. The internships are for Macquarie University credit and, as such, are available for transfer to the student's home degree.
Work placements are an invaluable learning experience for students from all academic disciplines. Placements are not administrative support for the workplace, so interns do not spend all of their time answering phones, photocopying, or making coffee (though some of these tasks may be required occasionally). All internships are project-based, meaning that students will work on a specific project for the duration of the internship. Assessment will vary according to the project being undertaken, and will usually relate to the work project. Students gain invaluable insight not only into their fields of study, but into the Australian business and cultural environment. We hope that students will become a part of the workplace and learn more about Australian people and practices.
Work experience is always a valuable addition to students resumes and could potentially improve employment opportunities upon graduation The Macquarie internship team will accept applications from students from all academic disciplines offered by Macquarie University. We will liaise with students during the placement process, so they can help us identify the most appropriate placement. Past internship placements have covered the following areas: communications, media, strategic business planning, project development, NGO projects, marketing, web site development and environmental sciences.
