The 2011-12 basketball season proved doubly satisfying for Bonnies fans.
The men won the university's first-ever Atlantic-10 championship in any sport and advanced to the NCAA Tournament, and the women went unbeaten in the A-10, earning an invitation to the Women's NCAA Tournament, where they advanced to the Sweet 16.
While we're proud of the accomplishments of our students as Division I athletes, we're just as proud of their achievements in the classroom.

Nicholson eyes future in the NBA, physics
Andrew Nicholson, who led the Bonnies to the A-10 title and an NCAA Tournament berth, is a top NBA prospect. A physics major, he chose SBU because of its science facilities. Nicholson started out as a chemistry major, but switched to physics because, "it's more fun." Read more

Van Tatenhove, Jenkins are academic all-stars
Senior basketball players Megan Van Tatenhove and Jessica Jenkins, who led the team to an Atlantic-10 title, were also named to the A-10 All-Academic Team. Read more |
Andrews named to All-Academic Team
Junior Jennifer Andrews, women's soccer goalkeeper, was named to the A-10 All-Academic Team. And for the sixth year in a row, the team earned The National Soccer Coaches Association of America College Team Academic Award, with a team GPA of 3.41. (Click links for more.)

Lacrosse players on notional honor roll
Senior Amanda Cizenski was among five Bonnies named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Division I Academic Honor Roll. Also named were Catie Greene, Marissa Morrill, Jill Remick and Daisy Timlin. Read more |
Marin Salcedo named Woman of Promise
Senior tennis player Manuela Marin Salcedo received the School of Journalism and Mass Communication's Dr. Mary A. Hamilton Woman of Promise Award for excelling in and out of the classroom and for setting a good example for her peers. Read more |
Courtney named to A-10 Academic Team
Sophomore swimmer McKenzie Courtney was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Academic Team. An elementary and special education major, Courtney has maintained a 3.743 GPA over the first three semesters of her collegiate career. Read more |
Murphy, Liu earn academic honors
Junior Mike Murphy and senior Yi Liu were named to the A-10 Swimming & Diving Academic All-Conference team. Murphy, a math major, has a 3.785 GPA. Liu, a computer science major, has a GPA of 3.476. Read more |
Tennis players named academic all-stars
Juniors Oscar Yanez and Kathryn Kvas earned All-Academic honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The men's and women's teams each earned All-Academic Team awards. Read more |
Soccer player named Ideal Bonaventure Student
Nicole Markert, a four-year member of the women's soccer team and captain for three years, was named the Ideal Bonaventure Student at Commencement in May 2011, in recognition of her community service and academic achievements. Markert is pursuing her master's at the University of Kentucky. Read more

Swimmers named Scholar All America Team
The men's swimming and diving team was named to the Scholar All America Team by the College Swimming Coaches of America for the fall 2011 semester. The award is presented to teams with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Read more
