Alice Miller Nation has been named the director of the Franciscan Center for Social Concern at St. Bonaventure University. She begins work July 9.
Nation has been the associate director of Newman Catholic Community at Rochester Institute of Technology since 2014. Previously, she was a pastoral associate at St. Matthew Church in Livonia from 2000 to 2014.
“I’m excited to welcome Alice to our University Ministries team. She brings a great depth of knowledge and experience to this position,” said Fr. Francis Di Spigno, O.F.M., executive director of University Ministries.
“Alice is a deeply spiritual woman and has a great passion for the Church’s teachings on social justice. I’m sure that our students, faculty and staff will find Alice to be a great addition to our campus community.”
Nation provided a comprehensive pastoral experience for students, local community and alumni who worshiped and affiliated with the Newman Catholic Community at RIT in an interfaith setting.
Nation also worked from 2002 to 2016 at Camp Stella Maris, a summer camp in Livonia that values inclusiveness, diversity and challenging oneself in the Roman Catholic tradition.
“Not obvious from my resume is my connection to the Franciscans,” Nation said. “St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Saginaw was staffed by Franciscans while I was on its pastoral team. I had some wonderful Franciscan men and women who taught me much in my early years of ministry and served as mentors during my six years there.”
