Nichole Gonzalez has been named interim vice president for Student Affairs at St. Bonaventure University, said Dr. Dennis DePerro, SBU’s new president.
Replacing Gonzalez as interim executive director for Residential Living and Conduct will be Rob DeFazio, who will retain oversight of the Center for Activities, Recreation and Leadership (CARL).
“No one has been more invested in our student body over the past two decades than Nichole and Rob, so I have every confidence in the world that they’re the right people to lead our Student Affairs division,” DePerro said.
Gonzalez has worked in residence life at St. Bonaventure since 1998, the last eight years as executive director for Residential Living and Conduct. She replaces Rick Trietley, who announced earlier this month he was leaving for a similar position at Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisc.
In her role, Gonzalez supervised four residence directors, 30 resident assistants, and the entire housing operation of the university, while also serving as chief judicial officer, fully responsible for daily implementation of the university’s student judicial process.
Gonzalez was SBU’s director of Residence Life from 2002 to 2009 and assistant director from 1998 to 2002, during which time she was also a residence hall director. She has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English from SUNY-Fredonia (1996 and 1998), and an MBA from St. Bonaventure (2004).
DeFazio, also entering his 20th year at St. Bonaventure, has been director of CARL since 2008. He has managed operations of the Richter Recreation Center since its opening in 2004, including oversight of 19 club sport programs, intramurals, the Freshman Leadership Center and Student Activities. He was previously director of Intramurals and Club Sports (2000 to 2004) and an admissions counselor (1998 to 2000).
DeFazio earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education (1998) and a master’s in counseling (2001) from St. Bonaventure.
Human Resources Director Erik Seastedt will take over for Trietley as the university’s Title IX coordinator. Gonzalez will remain the deputy coordinator for Title IX.
A national search to replace Trietley will be launched by January, said DePerro.
