St. Bonaventure University posted its best year ever for The Bonaventure Fund, with alumni and friends donating more than $2.5 million and making the 2017 fiscal year the most successful in unrestricted annual giving in Bona’s nearly 160-year history.
Over 4,500 donors contributed gifts between June 1, 2016, and May 31, 2017.
“Our alumni, parents and friends have tremendous energy and passion for the university,” said Dr. Dennis DePerro, president of St. Bonaventure. “Their involvement and support has been tremendous. They hold a deep commitment to our students and take great pride in supporting the Franciscan Catholic education that makes St. Bonaventure so distinct.”
This marks the second record-breaking year in a row for The Bonaventure Fund, according to Bob Van Wicklin, vice president for Advancement. Gifts to the fund provide scholarships, support academics and boost student services, he said.
Van Wicklin attributed the successful fundraising year to the “tireless efforts” of the many volunteers who generated excitement among classmates. The 2017 Reunion Class Challenge raised more than $389,381 for the fund, with members of the class of 1967 garnering the highest participation rate at 32 percent.
“Every investment by our alumni and friends equals opportunities for our students,” Van Wicklin noted. “From the freshmen whose scholarships made the difference in bringing them to campus to the seniors who sharpen career goals through our Career and Professional Readiness Center, our student body experiences the positive impact of each donated dollar.”
