The bi-annual Blessing of the Brains at St. Bonaventure will take place on Thursday, May 5, at 9 p.m. on the lawn between the Hickey Dining Hall and Devereux Hall.
The event, in its fifth year, always takes place at the end of Reading Day, the night before final exams begin, said Julianne Wallace, associate director of faith formation, worship and ministry.
Wallace said she hopes the event gives comfort to students and allows them to center themselves during the stressful time of final exams.
She also noted that the Blessing of the Brains tends to attract a crowd that usually wouldn’t come to Mass. Students of all faith traditions are invited.
At 10 p.m. following the service, a late-night breakfast will be served in the Hickey Dining Hall. It is free and open to all students.
“The tradition (of a late-night breakfast) has always been right before final exams as a way for faculty, staff and Cabinet members to reach out to students before their final push,” Wallace said.
Final exams at the university run from Friday, May 6, to Wednesday, May 11.
