Mar 16, 2017 | The university’s men’s and women’s rugby teams began a 40-day fundraising event
earlier today, aiming to maintain the teams’ longtime tradition at St. Bonaventure.
The online event, named 40 For 40 Campaign, will continue for 40 days, with organizers hoping to raise at least $40,000, said Rob DeFazio, director of the university's Center for Activities, Recreation and Leadership. Any funds will support both teams, he added.
Funds will be allocated for travel costs to tournaments and national competitions, salaries for top-notch, dedicated coaching staffs and recruitment for future St. Bonaventure rugby team members.
Coach Andrew Tui Osborne said alumni and fan support of the program allows the players and coaches to represent St. Bonaventure the best they can.
"Our alumni and families are the primary reason we've been able to elevate the program to its current heights, and with their continued support we look forward to continued growth over the next year and beyond," Osborne said.
