 Solar-powered Golf Cart

Solar-powered golf cart  The maintenance department now runs an electric golf cart, powered by solar energy from a panel atop the campus' boiler plant. The solar panel is connected to the vehicles' battery charger. The cart emits no carbon dioxide and the panel saves 60 watt hours of electricity per mile.

Thomas Merton Center Energy Conservation Pilot Project

Thomas Merton Center  The Thomas Merton Center will serve as a test case and model for energy conservation on campus. The building houses programs in University Ministries, the Franciscan Center for Social Concern and the Center for Community Engagement. Conservation efforts include replacing light bulbs with high-efficiency florescent and LED blubs, installing motion sensors and timers for certain lighting functions, optimizing control of heating and air conditioning systems and installing Energy-Star appliances.
