Students accepted into this competitive program have a reserved seat waiting for them at the SUNY Upstate University College of Medicine upon graduation from St. Bonaventure University.
Up to three students are accepted each year.
The student receives a provisional letter of acceptance to Upstate upon entering the program at SBU, and a seat is reserved in the medical school class that begins four years later. The acceptance is provisional only in the sense that program requirements must be maintained.
These requirements include both academic and comportment standards, as well as continued service work and clinical exposure.
Applicants must submit a single complete application to SBU by Dec. 15 of their senior year in high school. A separate application for Upstate is NOT required to enter the program. Transfer students are not eligible for this program.
Qualified applicants will be interviewed at SBU by invitation in December and January. A second interview is conducted at Upstate by invitation in late February to mid March. Decisions on acceptance are made by late March to early April.

"We look for a special kind of student — self-starters with high standards and expectations. Students like this enrich our institution and are able best to grow and develop professionally, during medical school and throughout their careers. Our graduates typically get their first choice of residency well above the national rate."
Dr. Steven J. Scheinman Dean, College of Medicine
