ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — A free H1N1 vaccine clinic will be available to St. Bonaventure University faculty, staff and students from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 11, in the San Damiano Room of Francis Hall.
Students are encouraged to take part in the clinic, says Melissa Gallison Blackstone, director of Health Services.
Students under age 18 need to bring a signed consent form from their parents.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say that adults aged 17-24 should receive vaccinations because, though they are a healthy population, they “live, work and study in close proximity” with others.
The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommends that you get the H1N1 flu vaccine if you are between ages of 6 months and 24 years; ages 25-64 if you have health conditions associated with higher risk of medical complications from influenza; pregnant or have been recently pregnant; household contact or caregiver for children younger than 6 months of age; or health care personnel.
People with egg allergies can not receive the vaccine. In addition, those who have already had a confirmed case of H1N1 developed some immunity to the infection and could choose to not be vaccinated.
The Cattaraugus County Health Department will run the clinic and is expected to provide up to 1,000 vaccines. No appointment is necessary.
